I drove down a new road on a promising night;
It was the kind of night that you remember.
There was something special about the way the sun was setting
As I navigated to find a place for the next adventure.
As exciting as these new roads were,
I felt my mind so close to a familiar place.
Either way, I remained unfazed
Whenever I steered through weathered gravel.
There were so many smooth roads ahead,
I felt like I was gliding in content.
I looked off the road as I drove past known exits.
Many of them closed long ago,
You’d hardly remember they were there.
Others were too easy to yield towards,
With minimal obstructions but plenty of warning signs.
Then there were others that were safe and accessible,
It was almost like navigating towards a warm embrace.
It was on this night that I came across a shocking sight.
The exit to the familiar place was closed to the public.
This path was not used often as it was difficult to access;
Unpredictable entry times was an obstacle for lingering visitors.
The few times I was granted passage resulted in exhilarating adventures.
So temporary, but equally vivacious and unparalleled in my memory.
Anyway, I realized that this exit recently closed.
There was passage for only one driver
And dibs was called long ago.
There was a moment of disappointment,
Of a foreseeable but unwelcomed sense of loss.
I guess I always hoped that one day it would open just for me.
But as I drove further away from the exit,
I formed a better glance from the distance
And realized, finally, that this path was not for me.
And as much as I hoped otherwise,
I accepted that I was never meant to stay
At the destination longer than I was there.
